Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson revealed he came dangerously close to a life-threatening incident during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when two marshals darted across the track directly in front of him

The concerning event occurred on the third circuit when marshals were observed on the racing surface as Lawson was rejoining the race following an early pitstop to replace his damaged front wing

Driver's Immediate Reaction

Shortly afterward, Racing Bulls driver Lawson radioed to his race engineer saying: "Is this for real? Did you witness that? I nearly... ended their lives"

"I honestly couldn't believe what I was witnessing"

"I rejoined with a brand new hard tyres, and then I approached Turn One and suddenly there were two individuals running across the track"

"I came close to striking one of them, honestly, it was extremely hazardous"

Security Issues Highlighted

"Evidently there's been a miscommunication somewhere but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I can't recall observing that in the past. It's absolutely inexcusable"

"We can't understand how on a ongoing race track marshals can be authorized to just run across the track in that manner. I don't understand the reason, I'm certain we'll get some kind of clarification, but it really can't happen again"

Governing Body Reviewing

The sport's regulatory authority, the FIA, is actively examining the situation

"Subsequent to a first corner event, the race directors was notified that debris was present on the track at the turning point of that curve" commented the regulatory authority

"On lap three, marshals were informed and placed on standby to enter the track and remove the wreckage once the entire field had cleared the area"

"Immediately when it was understood that Lawson had pitted, the instructions to dispatch marshals were rescinded and a caution signal was raised in that section"

"Our inquiry continues what transpired after that point"
